What caused the W32 Nimda virus?

underwaterfour.jpg

In the months before and after September 11, 2001, the United States was bombarded with cyber attacks. In July of 2001, a worm was observed on computers running Microsoft's IIS (Internet Information Services) web server. The worm spread using a common type of vulnerability known as a buffer overflow. It did this by using a long string of the repeated character 'N' to overflow a buffer, allowing the worm to execute arbitrary code and infect the machine. On July 19, 2001, the amount of infected hosts reached over 350,000 zombies. It was discovered by U.S. intelligence that a coordinated attack was being made against the U.S. Governments servers.
At a specific time all of the infected computers were going to send multiple pings towards the U.S. Governments server, which could cause grave damage. The plan was discovered and the servers were successfully shut down during the attack. In August of 2001, a second computer worm was released on the internet. It received the name Code Red II. The original worm tried to infect computers at random, Code Red II tried to infect machines on the same subnet as the infected machine. The source of these computer viruses remains a mystery.

Imperfect Murder # 1: Don’t go Upside-Down!

Claude and George Oliver deliberately let the car insurance lapse on Claude’s car, so no one would suspect insurance fraud. Claude and his nephew George were inseperable pals and that didn’t change when Claude suddenly married Delia Ringer. Claude thougt of Delia as nothing but a huge dollar sign. He had convinced her to take an insurance policy for $5,000 with a double idemnity clause in case she died in an accident and with him as beneficiary.

One day, Claude drove his wife and his best pal to a bridge just outside the town of Davis, Oklahoma. George used a tire iron on the head of Delia and Claude bashed her face in with a rock. The blood spewed down the seat and car floor. Then Claude and George moved the car to the bridge rail and pressed the starter, sending the car over the side. It landed upside-down in the jagged gully below.

Claude and George told the police they’d been going too fast, downhill and on a curve, when the faulty steering gear gave way. George had been driving, with Claude on the outside of the front seat and Delia in the middle. The two men had leaped to safety, but Delia had been trapped.

Now, if you don’t want to end up with your insurance money on death row, you have to plan your murder more carefully. These guy’s were not pro and though Delia’s face and skull were battered, there were no bruises on her arms. A person plunging off a bridge in a speeding car generally throws the hands up to shield the face too. And last but not least, blood had stained the car seat and the floor, but the car had landed upside-down, Delia was lying on her back on the car’s ceiling… and there was virtually no blood where it should have been…

Claude and his nephew were executed on August 23, 1933.

Killtown's secret archive

This organization ceases additions to the blog when the cyber stalker "Killtown" is found. The goal of the Secret Archive is to destroy Killtown's ability to attack people.

The Bill Star to Play in New Brit Thriller Movie "The Stone"

Tony Scannell, aka Ted Roach from The Bill, will be appearing in the new British psychological thriller, The Stone, being shot in the new year. The Director and screenwriter, Philip Gardiner, said he was over the moon at casting Tony who was "a damned good actor."

The full production team will launch into the film in the middle of a British winter and it will feature over 100 Druids, a whole host of British celebs and cameos from some very famous people.

"We’ll be getting the film to Festivals around the world before we decide on exactly what happens with it next, but having the special effects guys from Shaun of the Dead and other great movies, not to mention the fantastic make-up, costume, set design and artistic directors we have, I can’t wait to be honest." said Gardiner.

This will be Gardiner’s first foray into the world of Directing a movie instead of documentaries. It’s also a long way from his Sky TV chat show and the books he’s written, but he says, "it’s a logical progression for me really."

The production companies, Reality Films and Magi Multi Media, will also be releasing a soundtrack album for the film which will feature some great new artists such as Corjan and James Earnshaw, the musical director on the project, as well as some established bands. Dozens of world famous authors will also be appearing in the movie for a special secret element to the film that Gardiner says, "is sure to give the film a cult status in many genres. Not to mention some fantastic up and coming actors such as John Symes, who is just a gem."

"The hardest thing about all this is the organisation, which is why it's nice to have a great team on board, I've never had one assistant director before, let alone three."
